The color is amazing and easy to use, however it fades a lot faster than I expected it too (about 3 weeks of strong color). Also color runs when you shower, and might stain your shower tub.

I’ve tried this two times, one time mixed with Ex-Girl to make purple, and once by itself. The purple faded to a nice lavender color, and the blue remained for a while (about a month before it started to fade, even with almost daily swim practices). It didn’t fade to a teal or greenish color like a lot of blues do, but instead to a nice lighter blue that was still bright even three months after the initial dyeing. (It did still run, even a month after I dyed it, but it wasn’t too bad.)

If you’re dedicated to blue hair and don’t change your color, I imagine you’d LOVE this product, but my experience with Blue Ruin was not a good one.

Last summer I mixed Blue Ruin with a bit of Steal My Sunshine to make a gorgeous teal color. The color was absolutely beautiful, one of my favorites I’ve ever had, I will give it that. I dyed it just before a trip around Europe, which was a HUGE mistake. This stuff bled like no other dye I had ever used. Even after multiple shampoos, with DRY HAIR, everything my head touched had an aqua residue. The plane seats, my hoodies, hotel pillow cases/towels, everything. I haven’t had this problem with any other GDY colors, even as they faded. This color didn’t even fade as it bled, somehow. It just stained everything. At the end of the summer I tried countless Vitamin C treatments to get rid of the color, to no avail. I used some red hair dye in attempt to cover the green, but as the red faded the green would show itself more and more. I had to just give up bright colors all together and use dark permanent colors to save my hair color. Even using deep brunette dyes, a tinge of blue green still stuck around. It is now March, almost a full year later, and I have only just been able to rid my hair of the blue, after about five rounds of permanent brown hair dye, a bleach, and a neon orange.

I am giving it 2 stars because this was not necessarily a fault of Blue Ruin, but a fault of the greenish tint I created, since green color is so stubborn anyway. The bleeding may have also been because of my very unhealthy hair at the time, which doesn’t hold color very well. The color itself is beautiful, and I think the staining was attest to the pigmentation and staying power.

The first time I tried this product I mixed it with Steal my Sunshine and it was a beautiful light teal color. I have since dyed my hair 3 times with just the blue ruin, but you can still see a bit of the teal, which I really love. 🙂 I am really happy with this product. The only thing I didn’t really like was that it runs. I have a black pillow case I use after each time I dye my hair and I can’t wear any lighter colors for about three weeks after I dye it because it bleeds pretty bad. It also stains my tub blue, usually it bleeds really bad in the shower for the first week and a half or so, but after that its usually just light bleeding that I really don’t notice. To keep the dye from fading faster, after a few weeks I usually add some of the dye to my conditioner to help keep it vibrant. It’s been a year since I have dyed my hair(ombre) blue and I still get compliments from people. I absolutely love this color and plan on keeping it for a while longer. 🙂

so i planned to die my hair half blue rain and the other half ex-girl. when i washed out the colors the blue would not stop running. the pink was fine and washed out easily. the blue also turned the pink of my hair mostly purple because it ran so much. if you are going to use this product, i recommend deluding it with something because the dye itself is extremely pigmented.
