This dye was very strange. It was my first time trying out this brand, and after looking at pictures, I thought this might be a good true, bright orange. So when I opened the tube and started applying it, the first thing I noticed is that the dye itself was a very light orange and looked like it barely had any color in it. After applying it all over my very faded orange hair, it looked like I had just applied a plain white conditioner, except for the intense NEON YELLOW stains all over my face and hands. It was the weirdest experience I’ve ever had with a hair dye like this. I left the dye on for a good two hours, hoping it would somehow come out stronger than it seemed, but after I rinsed my hair, it was one of the most dull, almost natural looking golden, gingery colors I’d ever seen. “Unapologetically loud” huh? This color was quiet, shy, and embarrassed to even call itself “orange.” I was so disappointed with this color that I did a bleach wash immediately after and it ALL came out. I was left with perfect blonde hair after a single bleach wash. Even the yellow stains on my skin were completely gone by the time I’d made myself lunch and ordered a different hair dye. The only good things I can say for this hair dye are that it smelled amazing, and it was kind of refreshing to see an orange hair dye that wasn’t pink-based. It just wasn’t the true orange I was looking for

I used this on my natural light blonde hair and it was not orange at all but instead a light golden yellow. It was still really cool looking but not at all the orange I was hoping for or expecting from the picture/packaging. It then faded into a highlighter yellow and at least looked really rad under a black light!

The color in the picture is sort of accurate, but it turned my hair more yellow than anything else. It also faded rather quickly…my hair started at silvery white, so the color developed on a totally blank canvas.

I’ve used four colors from GDY (Ex-Girl, Riot, Steal My Sunshine, and Blue Ruin), and this one is probably in third place. I do like the color, but I wouldn’t call it “beautifully obnoxious” as advertised. To me it’s a bit more subdued when the dye is fresh. Oddly enough, as the color fades, it transforms into a neon highlighter yellow, which I found incredible. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen a color get more vibrant as it fades. That being said, I docked another star simply because of HOW yellow it is. The first time I used Riot the ends of my hair were beyond damaged (the stretchy-when-wet kind of damaged). The ends didn’t hold any of the orange color and were pretty much pure yellow, no trace of orange. On the healthier parts of my hair, it was still very yellow, but the orange was still there. If you’re into yellow based oranges, this is the dye for you.

That being said, I still enjoy using the dye. It’s easy to use, smells INCREDIBLE (like Fruit Loops!), and it fades really nicely. I usually use it to refresh my current orange color rather than using it to switch colors.

    Warning: Not a true orange!
If you are wanting the classic Hayley William’s Riot orange or even the orange shown on the model, then you need to purchase ‘Rock Lobster’ while you are at it. This orange by itself is a very yellow color that looks like the less-highlighter version of ‘Steal My Sunshine’. Still, this is a great product that does not damage already bleached/damanged hair, smells AMAZING, and I have received many compliments with my Riot-Rock Lobster mixed hair. My hair feels so healthy every time I touch up my hair with these dyes and I have never been more pleased with a product before.

I bought this hoping it would a brighter orange, but I feel like its a bit too diluted/dull for my liking. It has a yellow undertone and seems almost like an already faded orange. It is a beautiful color nonetheless but I think next time I will try mixing it with rock lobster for the intensity I am looking for.

I LOVE this color. I feel like I’ve tired every professional/retail out there and have never found anything that I LOVED, until I tired GDY! I lightened my hair to about a level 7/8 and it went on beautifully! I used a permeant color on my roots and this color outlasted it! I couldn’t believe it. I only wash my hair once every 7-10 days and I was able to go 8 weeks before I had to color it again and It left my hair in great condtition.

I love that this orange is more yellow-based and doesn’t fade to a dingey orange. It does fade to like, a dandelion yellow color, but I actually liked that, because it meant I could have several different shades since dying it. I first dyed my hair with this alone, and the second time,’iced it with a bit of Rock Lobster for a more intense orange color. I love how long the dye lasts and how conditioning it is for your hair, especially since lightening your hair is basically required for a color like this. I’m blonde now, but when it comes time to go bright again, GDY is my only choice for dye.

I bought this as upkeep for my already orange hair and thought,” oh this will be great”. Well it turned my hair yellow and then faded really bad. I even dyed it twice with it to try and darken the orange but it just kept washing out to this weird yellow. You have to mix it with another darker orange dye to make it actually orange otherwise it turns yellow. For me personally I think that’s kinda lame that you have to buy more hair dye for your hair dye to look good //: ,but that’s just my opinion.
